Comparison
BlockSite vs LeechBlock NG vs StayFocusd (2026 comparison)
BlockSite, LeechBlock NG, and StayFocusd all block sites free in Chrome, but differ in control. LeechBlock NG is the most powerful and fully free. BlockSite's real features sit behind a paywall. StayFocusd limits time instead of blocking outright. Pick LeechBlock NG for free depth, BlockSite for simplicity, StayFocusd for time limits.
Disclosure: we make FutureSelf, a Chrome extension built around a different approach than any of these three. Details checked in October 2026 using each product’s public pages.
These three all live in Chrome and all have a free option, but they differ in how much is actually free and how much control you get.

BlockSite
BlockSite blocks sites on a schedule and can block whole categories like social media or gambling. Its free tier is the most limited of the three, capping you around 5-6 blocked sites based on user reports, with unlimited blocking behind a paid plan.
LeechBlock NG
LeechBlock NG is free and open source, with no paid tier at all. It supports schedules, time limits, subdomain blocking and override rules you define yourself. The tradeoff is a denser, more technical settings screen.
StayFocusd
StayFocusd gives you a daily time allowance per site rather than an outright block, so you get some access before it kicks in. Its Nuclear Option is the strictest setting here: it blocks nearly everything and can’t be undone once started.
Which should you pick?
- Pick LeechBlock NG if you want full, free customization and don’t mind a technical interface.
- Pick StayFocusd if you’d rather have a daily time budget than an outright block.
- Pick BlockSite if you want simple category blocking and don’t mind paying once you outgrow the free tier.
Where FutureSelf fits
All three above either block outright or ration your time. FutureSelf takes a third approach: a 10-second pause with a question, fact or roast before you decide, plus a Night Mode built around your sleep window. It’s $19 one-time after a free 3-day trial.
